For information on pet capybaras, please see my blog at www.GiantHamster.com. In this video, Garibaldi Rous, a 15-month-old capybara is recovering from surgical removal of three abscesses in his skin. He was also administered about 100 mls of fluid subcutaneously. This turns out to be a bad idea for capybaras and the subq fluid is not being absorbed very quickly and is causing Gari a great deal of pain. At the end of the 1st day post-surgery, the lumps of fluid are still there. Gari is now eating some but still hardly moving around at all. I hope that he will be mostly feeling better by tomorrow.
Aww. what a tough not so little trooper. I hope he gets well...:)

Poor Gari! Did they give him any pain medication or is that too dangerous to administer?
I know it must be rough for you and for him, with capybaras being so exotic, things seem to be guesswork with him. But everything learned from Caplin and Gari's care will be invaluable for medical care of future capy's.
