Arlen Specter (R-PA) about whether the Supreme Court's ruling on Guantanamo detainees last year cited the constitutional right to habeas corpus.

On Monday, the conservative American Freedom Agenda also urged Gonzales to step down, calling him an "unsuitable steward of the law."

Gonzales "has presided over an unprecedented crippling of the Constitution's time-honored checks and balances," they wrote in a letter to the White House and the Justice Department. "He has brought the rule of law into disrepute, and debased honesty as the coin of the realm."
