UCLA geography professor Dr. Jared Diamond talks about the challenges we face in making a long-term commitment to protect the Earth. Diamond, whose 2005 bestseller Collapse analyzed what causes societies to fail, underscored the urgency of curtailing our environmental impact by explaining that if we allow even one environmental problem to spin out of control, it could bring about the demise of our civilization.

@HaemonAK I am not familiar with this book but I believe that Dr Diamond applies the comparative method to investigate the environmental factors that affect our societal present as well the long term catastrophic consequences if our civilization doesn't change it's survival values according to existing environmental problems. Am I missing something? I don't find him narrow minded at all. On the contrary...At least in his latest book "Collapse"

I am currently reading one of Jared Diamond's works about Agriculture and it being the "Worst Mistake" man has ever made. I seriously think that Jared lacks the understanding to think in the long term.. sure its had a negative effect NOW... but in the future if implemented correctly could lead to multitudes of benefits. Just because hunter gathers have their benefits doesn't mean farmers don't have theirs. Narrow minded.

Conservation has little to do with donations and more to do with rethinking.
