I have admired Laurel Burch as a person for a long time and was sad when she passed on. I think she had an immense talent and I love her designs. They speak to me of hope and love and happiness. I recently bought fabrics with her Celestial Dream designs and look forward to making something beautiful with it.
What an amazing woman! I was sick with Parvo Virus several years ago. Parvo Virus mimic rheumatoid arthritis. The pain is so unbelievable, I just wished I would die. A wonderful rhumatologist got my life back on track. I am happy to say that today I am off meds and have had no pain for two years! I can't imagine living in pain like she did.....and express joy through that pain. Her artwork truly lifts you up. I am in awe of Laurel Burch. She no longer is in pain.
I met her many years ago in her shop at Bazaar del Mundo in Old Town, San Diego. She and I had the same birthday, Dec. 31, 1945. Seeing this video makes me realize the amount of enthusiasm she had for this life and her painting. I don't think I would have that much courage in the face of illness, but I shall always remember this interview and try to emulate her. She was a beautiful and colorful human.
and so for all of you intellects that claim art has to have "theory" to be art... SHAME ON YOU.. this woman brings more joy and hope into the world than any "theory piece" could ever bring... thank you Laurel!
