  • @micktree You clearly dont have clue what your talkin about or ear. Di Meola plays lot "outside" notes. True, hes not jazz player. But he is great musician who blends different influences to make hes own style. One of the greatest guitarists and musicians ever =)

  • I am afraid you are the one who is not listening.

I hear: Jazz Minor, Diminished, Altered Dominant, Augmented, All relevant modes.

Al knows his scales as well if not better than most jazz guitarist His harmonies are as jazz as can be but with a strong latin flavor.

  • Or I imagine those small cute villages of southern Italy and France...

Meola might be American, but he has european spirit - southern temperament :D

  • Yep, he is more classical player, considering his acoustic works, but Fusion days are quite jazzy. At least I think so.

Personally I prefer his acoustic style, it's just so unique and intensive. It always transcends me on some mediteranean beach, blowing wind, heat, the smell of the sea. You know what I mean?

    :)

I get really sentimental and nostalgic listening to World sinfonia

  • al di meola is not a jazz guitarist, listen to his solo's since he first came on the scene till now, he is pure diatonic scales, and his harmonies are not jazz ones.

  • Also I remember Al himself said he would "hunt down and find" anyone who put videos of these performances up.

  • I was there for this! 4 sets of fantastic Al euphoria!

  • one of the great jazz guitarists off all time
