Andy Burton narrowly avoids a crash when Joel's Escort Cosworth breaks down just before Burton Arrives.

After Burton just passes they push the car to the side and when starting the exhaust caught fire, shortly followed by Hugh Hunter Squeezing past too !

All this plus more is on the 2008 Somerset Stages Rally DVD which is available from www.mc-video.co.uk

it has loads of stage action and in-car action from both ends of the entry list

all for just £12.50

  • not really if u look hugh hunter was going bout the same speed so burton wasnt to careless

  • The trouble was , burton went through before they pushed the escort to the side a bit , so there was more room for hunter.

Wouldnt have liked to be in Shelleys seat for that corner !

  • Fookin miles off it

  • looks like that escorts been running away from the 306 and its trying to catch its breath and you can just hear the beast coming through the woods....

  • 'you're on fire at the back' - twat

  • i've seen better marshals that are blind and deaf! why the hell is he letting that randomer be on the stage and approach the car! i had 2 people walk across a stage twice on me, i prosecuted them! they both got cautions.

  • @stunbeam Ditto! This wasn't a near miss, but a very calculated move by Andy! And like you said, he had room to spare.

  • I agree with rallygb - Andy is a terrific driver, but if you think it was a near miss then you should perhaps reassess your suitability to drive a car on a public road. He was sideways as he exited the front of the parked car and still had room to spare. As for the amount of time he had to make a decision, relatively speaking it wasn't too onerous.

If only most of the drivers on the road used even a tenth of the concentration on their own driving...........

  • Yeah, he was close, but I think he knew damn well he would get past. Great driving skills; it took him about an eighth of a second to see, decide, and put the pedal down. A lesser driver would have (tried) to slow down until he was SURE. Sucks for the other dude. I guess that's how these things work. "You're on fire!!" "Oh, no I'm not, it' just....oh." LOL.

I love Burtons car (everyone does), but didn't they ban it or something? I guess that what they do to the best cars (think Group B).

  • good vid of joel andy and hugh!!!

  • It was a very near miss. I was one of the spectators standing on the bank on the far side of the hairpin. Joel's escort appeared to over fuel and stall out. Andy Buton did briefly lift of as he passed the waving spectators. He cleared Joel by about an inch and a half with a superb piece of driving. Once Burton had passed we helped the Marshal push Joel to one side so when Hunter arrived there was ample room for him to pass. Note the small fire caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust of Joels car.

  • cool that was a very near miss
