Found this in the junkyard today. Pretty good shape for being in the northeast and being 30 years old. Out of all the AMC Eagles, the liftback is probably the least ugly, and definitely the most sporty of the bunch. A book I have shows 17,000 liftback Spirits and Eagles made for '81, but doesn't break it down, so I don't know how many SX/4s were made, but probably not many. I've only ever seen one or two on the road in my lifetime. The kammback is a lot rarer, but waaaay too ugly.

  • That is quite a car! And look at all those gauges in that.

Too bad it got dumped in the junkyard. Wonder what made them put it there?

  • @clubcar98 Who knows, may be messed up mechanically or something. The reg sticker shows it was last on the road in 1997! I don't think it was sitting outside though, it's fairly clean for being off the road for 14 years.

  • Wow, I have a car just like this in the 80's

  • Suit yourself about the pullout, that is a Technics, rare and expensive in the day. I'd like to get my hands on it.

  • There will probably be one of these in an estate sale coming up soon, the owner was a bodyman in the midst of, and almost finished restoring to be a nice daily driver. It was originally from a climate that saw very little inclement weather so it was quite sound to start with. When the car is accessible and ready to be shown, I may very well post a clip of it, I am interested in it myself.

  • The gauge set was a nice feature to have, my '80 sedan has the option. The vacuum display is a feature unique in the day, other manufactures used the unit as fuel economy reminder, Cadillac used a light arrangement on the dash. The Eagle was a daring venture for the day, AMC as usual pulled a lot out of the parts bin to create a market niche. 4-doors bending and door jamming off road? Has never happened to mine, in fact, have stopped on severe angles to get out and take pictures! Doors fine!

  • What junkyard is that?

  • did you buy this car

  • @bruno2260 yeah, i sold mine for a couple hundred bucks a few months back!

  • @CSLFiero I drove over 300 miles & bought a junk Sx/4 on ebay (floor & frame severely rotted) for $300 just for the spoiler.

I'm looking for for side and rear window louvers for it now, so if you know of any let me know please.

  • uh wat junk yard is this at?

  • You would be amazed what you can do with that car. People race them. Get a 4,0 head and bell housing with the nsc370 inline 6 tranny (yes the same one in the viper) and it will all bolt up.
