When Entergy restores power after a major storm it follows a strategy that focuses out from the power source repairing the power plant and then the power lines that deliver the power from the plant to the towns and cities (called transmission lines). At the same time, crews focus on public safety and critical infrastructure (hospitals, police, fire, media and pumping stations). Then linemen restore power to neighborhoods. They will work first on circuits that supply power to the most people, such as a line that supplies electricity to 2,000 customers before a line that feeds 100 customers. Often the last to be replaced are the transformers. This equipment usually serves about 10 customers at a time.. In this video, our crews first replace a transformer serving underground wires. Then they replace an overhead transformer. Which one is faster? And of course, once the work is done, the lights come back on.
