My ASUS n61jv notebook is currently running Ubuntu 10.10. Everything is working just fine except for sleep.... Whenever I close my laptop and open it again it won't wake up. Apparently, this problem is caused by the kernel that ships with 10.10. On the forums people have said that the latest kernel resolves the problem. How do I upgrade to a newer kernel?

@LAB1one It's not a problem I've experienced, but I'm running the Adobe 10.2 prerelease version of flash. There's a PPA you can add if you'd like to test it out. If you search "ubuntu 10.10 square ppa" there's an article on Webupd8 that talks about adding the PPA for it.

@thisweekinlinux yes i believe they are flash based

@LAB1one Some of them won't load? Are they all flash-based?

@jesteroot Sadly, I'd say it's probably going to behave the same way. This is the first time I've heard anything about it, because Ubuntu has moved so completely to Empathy. Definitely worth a try, and you could always file a bug against it.

@Portharian what speed did you burn the CD at, and did you check the md5sum of the ISO you downloaded?

@thisweekinlinux I burned it the first time at 42x but then at 8x. I got the .iso at ubuntu.com

@Portharian it's possible the .iso you downloaded was corrupted along the way. You might try redownloading and reburning at the slowest speed, or you can run md5sum against the .iso file from a terminal, and compare it to the one provided when you download Ubuntu.
