Man, I want to be a Barstow. Back in 1956, the Barstow family won a trip to Disneyland, courtesy of TWA, and they had a film camera and a pretty wacky sense of humor. They documented their trip, from entry to heading home, in this hilarious and quirky 30 minute 'documentary'.

This was Disneyland, Anaheim's, first year of operation, back when you could do the park in a day after buying booklets of tickets, a, b, c, d, and the infamous e tickets. You'll recognize a lot, but a lot is changed, too. There's no Matterhorn, but the sky cars are strung across the park. The Autopia is there but check it out - no guide tracks. Get a good look at Monstro the whale, too - he works! He blows mist and his eyes blink, and the old illusion of the miniture Casey Jones train is running, as well.

The entire movie is available at the Internet Archive, and also features quick looks at Knotts Berry Farm (not much more than the gold panning and chicken restaurant, though), Graumanns Chinese Theater, and Will Rogers home. Basically, the usual tourist fare from 1956.

The music is from a quartet for electric instruments, "Black'y". That is, Black Key. It's mainly composed around the black keys. Tedd wrote this interesting experiment as a start into his exploration in either tones or tuning the S-6, I'm not sure. Jig ended up as distinct echo of the "Electric Hoedown" from the Disneyland Main Street Parade, and I thought it'd fit in well here, chasing through the park back when it was free to get in and Walt might happen to wander on by.

The instruments in use are the Doepher Eurorack, the Moog Voyager, the Hammond S-6, and the Yamaha DD5 drum machine. And he did, incidentally, play the DD5, it's not programmed.

Well, Tedd's from 1956, too, so I suppose there's a certain amount of wacky to the year.
