Beautiful song by the Winstons about their step father, sure to bring a tear to your eye, simply beautiful! Recorded from pictured 7" single, Metromedia Records - 1969!

Lyrics:
"There's a man at my house he's so big and strong
He goes to work each day, stays all day long
He comes home each night looking tired and beat
He sits down at the dinner table and has a bite to eat
Never a frown always a smile
When he says to me how's my child
I've been studying hard all day in school
Tryin' to understand the golden rule

Think I'll color this man father
I think I'll color him love
Said I'm gonna color him father
I think I'll color the man love, yes I will

He says education is the thing if you wanna compete
Because without it son, life ain't very sweet
I love this man I don't know why
except I'll need his strength till the day that I die
My mother loves him and I can tell
By the way she looks at him when he holds my little sister nell
I heard her say just the other day
That if it hadn't been for him she wouldn't have found her way
My real old man he got killed in the war
And she knows she and seven kids couldn't of got very far
She said she thought that she could never love again
And then there he stood with that big wide grin
He married my mother and he took us in
And now we belong to the nman with that big wide grin

Think I'll color this man father
I think I'll color him love
Said I'm gonna color him father
I think I'll color the man love, yes I will"

  • Great song about a positive male role model. Made me think of my dad and how much of himself he has given for his family, and what he has taught me. Love you dad.

  • There was a man in my mom's life at the time when this song came out and my mom reminded me recently that I said i was going to color this man father. He just passed and though I was a kid so young at that time I remember mom being in LOVE for the first time. My dad was a dead beat so when this man came into her life I never seen mom light up the way she did with this guy. Sadly after 11 years the relationship ended but when I hear this song it reminds me of him. May he RIP.

  • My grandson love's this song he's only 11 we live together just him and i Great song he'll tell me . why don't they make more like that .i tell him i wish they did.

  • @mingo314159 You will because you understand this song. We have adopted five times. There is nothing more important in life than giving children a family.

  • I'm about to "adopt" due to to family issues. I only hope I have have the strength to measure up to what this song is about.

  • We sure could use more good fathers in these trying times, maybe this song could be an inspiration. And hats off to all those good fathers out there.

  • I come a family where there was a step parent. The parent was a father. He was my biological father and he had five step- children. My father and our father didn't use the word step. He called us all his children. Our father passed away a few years ago and he was the one that was holding our family together. Its not the one who plant the seed that is the parent, but the one who nurture and be there for the child. I am proud of our father. May he rest in peace. Thank you daddy for you.

  • I love all your comments! So much love to all the Daddys, Fathers, Step Dads, Grand dads and Uncles and brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who knew that the beat that would keep his kids out at the club until 2 AM was lurking on the other side of this record. HAH!
