Jim White's Tiny Desk Concert at NPR Music

Jim White is a storyteller first and a musician second. It's a kind of storytelling rooted in his own unusual history: He grew up in Florida in a deeply Pentecostal community and fell in love with the white gospel music he heard. But from there, White took a surprising path to becoming a full-time musician. He was a professional surfer, a boxer, a fashion model in Milan and a cab driver in New York City. White's travels recently took him to Washington, D.C., where he stopped by the offices of NPR Music for this live performance.

I went to concert about 12 years ago and someone came up and handed me a bag of merch and samples on the way out to the parking lot. There was a Jim White sample and I've loved his music ever since. Seems like a great guy and full of talent and poetry/love.

Got here kind of late. Jim White's Wrong Eyed Jesus is one of the best movies I've ever watched. What counts is in it. The water, the eyes of the people, the easy honestness of their talk. Jim is a genius I feel, and a Saint in my world. I got out when One flew over ....was released. I was released, 2 weeks stay. But I did see something about what is expected.... to be an average sort of person. I loved the video ... Ghost Town of My Brain. I know.... eve caught in gods secret hurricane
