yes its played on C minor, it gives a sense of dramatic in this song which makes it sound very soothing. :D

C minor, with scordatura tuning; that is, the A string is tuned down to a G.

it was originally written with a scordatura tuning, but here it is played without the retuning, which is more common for modern cellists. this results in a few of the chords being reduced in the overture, and the fugue also becomes a bit easier to play
