The Connection Between Christianity and Authoritarianism

Why is it that Christians fall in love with people who value the state over the individual? Why do they fall in love with men and women who hunger for war and torture? Why are Christians the only group that these Nationalists can rely on for a vote?

I am a Christian and I find myself agreeing with everything you said although if you are actually trying to change someone's view cussing and insulting them wont do the trick.

But again I find myself totally agreeing with the main point you are making. I have never been so ashamed to be an evangelical Christan as I was the night of the Iowa caucus. VOTE for a REAL CHRISTIAN named RON PAUL for REAL CHANGE!!

I don't intend to change anyone with this video, it was more of a late-night vent to get the frustration that I have out. I gave $200 to Ron Paul because I'll do anything to avoid another Authoritarian in office and I was just crushed when Huckabee, the most extreme and intolerant GOP candidate, won Iowa.

There have been sad times in history that blood was shed in the name of Christ, but that is not the way of Jesus. Study the Bible, and you will see. The 20th century was the bloodiest century in history, and it was fueled by Atheism (Marxism, etc.) As for American evangelicals, I think that they believe that America's material prosperity is evidence of God's favor. It is sad. Vote for Ron Paul, a Christian who believes in peace.

Get a grip. The wars of the 20th century were not fought in the name of atheism. In fact, Hitler vastly employed religious ideology in Nazism. Their belt-buckles even said "God With Us". Don't turn a century of blood into this simple rhetoric.

I am in the same boat as you, and think the exact same thing.

I think Christians have a strong link with authoritarianism because Christians want a strong central leader (like Christ) who will save them from all possible problems. They want a God-man to come back and save them.

Knowledge requires critical thought which I saw little of when I attended church as a child. It was why I left the church at 14.

I am spiritual but have abandoned religion.

I know a lot of people on the liberal side that are as blindly devoted to their cause.

Your speech can easily be applied to both sides. Blind faith in party, blind faith in religion. What is the difference? Peace

this made me remeber how i wanted to be a life affirming jesus following christian, and could not seem to get support for such hippie ideals in the church. people who can become offended when you pray for peace on your enemies, have surely got things confused. I have no problem with the teachings of many religion founders, but it takes another type altogether to reinterpret things to support their selfish evils.
