"Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise"

Softly, as in a morning sunrise,
the light a love comes stealin' into a new born day.
Flamin', with all the glow of sunrise,
a burning kiss is cealin' the vow that I'll betray.

For the passions that thrill love,
lift ya high to heaven.
Are the passions that kill love,
and lead ya down to hell!

Same old story,
softly, as in an evenin' sunset.
The light that gave ya glory,
will take it all away.

For the passions that thrill love,
and lift ya high to heaven.
Are the passions that kill love,
and lead ya into to hell!

Same old story,
softly, softly as in an evenin',
sunset, sunset.
The light that gave ya glory,
will take it all away.

Say Richard? I don't wanna be a drag or anything,
but the title of this tune is 'softly',
so could we do it that way please?

Softly, softly as in an evenin',
sunset, sunset.
The light that gave ya glory,
will take it all away.

  • wow, new to me! thank u!

  • ctnd...too little folks are carrying the torch of the Great American Songbook, real crooners/lounge lizards/all-around entertainers. Few of us are out here trying to keep it goin tho ;)

  • OMG-the break with BD dancing is the END! LUV IT! Great stuff, thx for posting! Anyone else catch how he bends that last note, the last measure and a half of his singign? Could be taken as off-pitch but I think its on purpose, really odd (for the time) choice=shows the jazz influence BD and his good friend (Richard) Burke & Billy (May) colored this LP and most singles in the 59-62 era. Damn shame we lost him so young, and a &$*(#^@ shame so little of the original swingers & singers remain..ctnd

  • How great is this song..........? Bobby Darin--the incomparable just aces every song he ever sung.

  • Man I WISHED they still wrote tunes like this...Modern song writing is the pits....

  • Damn! Very possibly, his best ever.

  • 1:12-1:13 !!!

  • LOVE IT!!!! VERY NICELY PUT TOGETHER VIDEO TO AN OUTSTANDING SONG!!!

  • @peteholly1971 : This song is available on the album "That's All" . It is one of Bobby's best, it contains Mack the Knife and Beyond the Sea.
