I think it's the embarrasing fact that the buffoon in front of him is Black and stupid. I'm Black and not stupid, and noticed this sort of thing in college : whites friends of mine who are usually harsher in debate, restraining themselves when confronted to a dumb person who happens to be "ethnic" and not very articulate.
