Stevie Wonder 1974 concert on German TV show Musikladen/Beat Club.
I recorded from the European TV channel VH1 in 2003. I wish this would be released on DVD! If someone can help me identify the musicians, it would be great. One of the ladies, Afro and a polo shirt, singing backing vocals is Denice Williams. She was part of Wonder's female background singing group Wonderlove. I think this is the partial lineup, based on what Stevie says at 23.15: Reggie McBride plays bass. Michael "Mike" Sembello on guitar and keys, Ollie E. Brown on drums.

Song list:
1. Jam
2. Contusion
3. Higher Ground
4. Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing
5. I Can See The Sun In Late December
6. He's Misstra Know-It-All
7. Living For The City
8. Superstition

  • I am pretty sure that is a young Kenwood Dennard on drums.

  • Great!!!

  • Great copy of this, thanks for the upload buddy. I've never been able to find "the Sun in Late September' anywhere else, was it ever recorded?

  • Band line up is as follows: Deniece Williams, Shirley Brewer, Lani Groves (background vox); Reggie McBride (bass); Marlo Henderson, Michael Sembello (guitars); Ollie E. Brown (drums); and Stevie Wonder.

  • @hankaaron1961 Thanks! It seems that she only has 1 other video/song on here. That sucks.

  • I lust for the sound of an Orange amplifier of that era. It seems that music equipment was just so sweet and well made at that time... Musicians, you know what I'm talking about? I would only agree that microphone and recording with digital technology has gotten better at clarity, but my opinion stands.

  • @Docmananoff That singer in the middle is Lani Groves. So I guess that leaves Shirley Brewer on the right.

  • @neoautism That what a sign of respect for German audiences back then. You didn't interrupt an artist's performance or draw attention to yourself an away from the artist.

  • It took guts to be a member of Wonderland. Stevie never gave them a standard setlist. He would just call out whatever he wanted to played at the moment. Watch how the guitarist is lost at the beginning of "Contusion".

  • Ohhh yes... and a concert in Sweden too !!!
