the sound quality is very good. I remember the 990's used to have a particular vacuum-cleaner-esq sound as is demonstrated here.

No, it's a Convair 990. An entirely different jetliner than the Boeing product. The Boeing 707 just happens to bear a slight resemblance to the CV 990.
