Video of a home made tripod with a Yaesu GS5500 Rotator fitted to it. The two Satellite Yagis seen are a 5 element Yagi for 145MHz and a 16 element X Beam for 435MHz. This antenna set up is used in conjunction with a Yaesu FT-847 radio and allows two way communication between Earth and Space. Radio contacts can easily be made with Satellites and the ISS with this antenna.

  • Good stuff Simon - I could do with one of those rotators! Have you got it interfaced to your PC for automated tracking? 73 - Rob VK2GOM / G0MOH

  • @combatwombat71 Hi Rob, the GS5500 are pretty cool indeed, you should treat yourself ;-)

So far I dont have any plans to interface it to the pc I enjoy twiddling the controls by hand to much.

  • Simon - Well doe! That is an awesome set-up. An excellent option for those of us that can't put up a more permanent system for various reasons. 73!

  • @USNERDOC Thanks very much, I hope you decide to knock one up yourself ;-)

  • Nice construction there Simon.Does make alot of noise though, or it could've been a truck passing @ the time you shot the movie....At least I hope it was ;-) 73s de Wim.

  • @2e0hts Hi Simon, would have to import one from the UK, they are too much money here! In fact all amateur gear is well overpriced in Australia! Look forward to more vids using your setup there. 73 - Rob

  • @Mrm3onl lol I like your style! I bet that radio manges to grow as well without the XYL noticing a new one ;)

No probs on sharing any of my videos, glad you like it and hope to see your future projects on youtube. best 73 - Simon
