A Plandamph is when preserved steam locomotives take over the rostered work of diesel engines for a few days. In May 1993, on a Thursday evening we went to the engine shed at Arnstadt and saw at least seventeen engines in steam and being prepared for work over the next four days. The following morning at 06.00 we went up into the hills towards Zella Mehlis and this is what we saw. First a double headed class 44, 2-10-0 freight arrives into the loop. A pacific on passenger then arrives and departs followed by the freight. This was spectacular, make sure the sound is on full! my all time favourite sequence.
