This video, recorded at Bobby Manuel's Studio in 1998, features an incredible array of Stax notables including Ronnie Williams on piano, John Gary Williams, Bobby Manuel on guitar, James Mitchell on sax, Ben Cauley and Reid McCoy on trumpet and many others who float in and out of the rehearsal area.
So much fun to see this rehearsal. Bobby Manuel is so special in so many ways...not only a genius as guitarist and arranger, but started a band a Saturday Night Alive at Christ Methodist Church. He used his music for the Lord too....the same chords, rhythm, and everyone loved it all. This service was especially for people who don't go to church who might informally drop in for worship and be welcome.

I would like to say hello and thank you for your kind words and thoughts regarding my father Mr. John Gary Williams. I noticed you called him "Gary," are you an acquaintance?

They're both great music...I kinda like Stax as well...Atlantic records did such wonderful things for Blues and R&B in the 60s and 70's...It's sad that record companies don't nurture talent like that anymore.

You are so right, marquee. I'm reading a book on Motown right now, and it was like a factory, versus how Stax did things here in Memphis. We're so lucky to have had those guys, including Isaac, who died today.

Seeing this video of the rehearsal of The Mad Lads really touched my heart. As young men they were very respectful & kind.
Gary's voice compared to none. He had his own style.
Stax brought music that is "unforgetable".
