Powerful Iraqi Cleric Vows to Resume Insurgent Fight if US Troops Stay

Influential Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr says his supporters will resume their fight against U.S. forces in Iraq if they stay beyond a deadline to withdraw at the end of the year. The comment came in response to US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates' earlier statement that American troops could stay if requested by the Iraqi government. There are currently 47,000 US troops in Iraq.
