This is my 'how to roll a felt ball' tutorial. I hope you will find it useful in learning a simple technique for wet felt making.

Don't worry about the taps... once you have perfected this technique it takes less than a minute to roll a ball and you use less water this way than you would filling bowls full of water to make your felt ball beads. However, I apologise if I have offended anyone with the water used in this tutorial and remind you that you can make felt balls by using just wool and a needle... tutorial will follow soon!

  • Hi - I am a beginner - I have corriedale wool and I am finding that the balls crack a lot - any other tips, I have tried all sorts of different ways.

  • @TheUkeygirl Try different soap levels, or slightly needle felt your basic shape before you start to wet felt. Corriedale is a great felting fibre, so with practise it should work lovely.

  • Where did you buys this stuff??

  • @MsSanriolover at sarastexturecrafts [dot] com

  • Hi, thanks for your video, now that explains a lot! I wanted to ask about how many 1-2cm balls you can make from 50g of wool? - I'm considering a bigger project, but didn't dare to yet^^

  • @wannabeawallabe I think I used around 3cm of wool for this... the Merino I sell and used for this at Sara's Texture Crafts is on average approx. 380-410cm length per 100g. So that's a lot of felt balls!

  • LOVE THIS!

  • @zhemlja yes you can do... but you will need to keep replacing the water in the bowl... once you get the hang of it, this method is like the difference between having a shower, or taking a bath.

  • @horkleycjdn sometimes cracks will happen... even to the best of us (I hide mine depending on the project with needle felting!) The key is practise and learning how the fibre likes to be rolled in your hands. You will find certain fibres like to be rolled a certain way. It's also good to check you don't have too much soap and enough water.

  • @amourcasse I used Merino wool roving or tops... I stock this on my website it comes in plain natural, or a whole range of dyed colours.
