Johnny Devlin, born John Lockett Devlin (11 May 1938), was an influential early New Zealand rock musician, sometimes called "New Zealands answer to Elvis Presley".

His cover of Lloyd Prices Lawdy Miss Clawdy in 1958 went number one in New Zealand, with sales of more than 100,000, launching a long-term career. He spent much of his time in Australia from 1959 - touring in support of the Everly Brothers in that year, and often appearing on Australian television shows such as "Bandstand" and "Six OClock Rock'. In 1964 he toured Australia as a support act for The Beatles.

  • This is it!!

  • Oh Yeah!

  • Sorry, that tune isn't among the LP song line-up. The album is the only recordings I have of Johnny. I plan on posting the balance of the LP a tune at a time until complete. The next song will be "Twenty Flight Rock"

  • Johnny Devlin's version of Twenty Flight Rock is my favourite, the sax is real rockin'!

  • I have more tunes from this LP to upload...stay tuned...Twenty Flight Rock is also my favorite

  • Thanks, glad you like it.

  • Great Old Rockabilly!

  • omg so psychedelic!!!! gotta love this stuff combined with mj

  • Slightly different chord progression to Jimmy Lloyd version, slightly less edgy, confrontational to JL. What's it about anyway, it sounds really way out mumbo jumbo, phallic, slighly self flagulatory, cool, up for it, great pace too, slighly moody, hammers home the sexual intent.

  • Thank god the beach boys could never figure out any lirics for miserlou.

    would have ruined it.

  • The beach boys and jan&dean totally screwed up surf music when the silly little boys started singing songs.

The best surf rips are instrumental only.

  • If you want tear it up SAX that will blow your moongoggy mind , look for a rare 1960s tune called blast off.

  • @rockabillypsych0sis Sorry , But the best tenor sax rip in history is in Mickey Aversas Blast Off.

It is a very hard to find surf instrumental from the 1960s. I have a copy on the DECCA label in mint cond.

the last one i have seen at auction in only fair cond went for $700

  • Thanks ! I've been searching for this song for weeks :D

  • I came back again: modern rock don't cut it. Music like this from that era is the real rock n roll.

  • love this what a bopper this was hope you all like this !!!!!!
