Mild autumn weather encouraged nettles to grow in October and November so we picked the leaves, steamed and froze them. In December we used the leaves to make a soup wich included peas we grew on the allotment. Apart from the marmite and worcester sause, all the ingredients were produced by us. www.self-sufficientinsuburbia.blogspot.com

  • Jonathan, what breed of chicken is that on the calendar behind you? Very fluffy bird!

What other sorts of critter are you allowed to have on your allotment? you've got bees, and now the chickens, are you allowed to raise ducks, or a goat?

    Happy New Year!

  • @DamiettadCarnivalle It's a large black Orpington. We are planning to get some ducks to go in the chicken run. We haven't asked about keeping goats on the allotment so we don't know if we are allowed to. We do however have our eyes on a derelict allotment on the site which we want to use for goats. We will be asking the owner shortly. Watch out for future updates!
