Of course we have to do a good job but we also want to be able to mow and service as many lawn care customers as we can each day. How many lawns should you be able to do? It depends on a few things. but a good number for us is 10-12 lawns on any given day. In my area most of our customer's lawns are 3/4 acre to a little over an acre.
Here's a few tips to help you mow as many lawns as you can in any given day and make your lawn care business as profitable as it can be.
1. How close are the customers to each other. If your lawn care customers are spread out all over the place it will make it harder to get them all done quickly. I try to group my lawn care clients as close together in a route as I can. I also want to start mowing at the property that's the longest distance from where we keep our mowers. I do this because I don't want to backtrack. I want to work my way back to our offices.
2. How big are the properties? Obviously if I have a bunch of properties that are over an 3 acres each then it's harder to mow 10+ of these a day.
3. Is there lots of trimming, edging, etc? if so I may try to make it so I only have to trim every other visit. I usually don't have to edge sidewalks and walkways but every 3 visits or so.
4. What size crew am I using? It's been proven over and over a two man crew is the most effective 99% of the time for mowing, etc. A third person is a waste.
If I plan correctly and work smart I can mow as many as 14 lawns in a day with a two man crew. You do the math. Averaging $55 a lawn, that's not bad money.
I hope these tips will help you in your lawn care business.

@flguy32501 We average 25-30 lawns a day with a 3-4 man crew. Of corse, these lawns are mostly residential and rarely larger than a half acre or so... Yours is impressive!

well i thought i would put my thoughts in... we have a 2man crew and we average 35-40 lawns a day . we have almost 300 clients and last year after a few days of rain we did 52 lawns in one day. Each lawn is ALWAYS mowed, edged, trimmed, and blown. EVERYTIME so cutting 10-14 lawns a day? these are 1/4 acre-1/2 acre lots. Doing this with one 48" mower and me myself doing ALL edging, blowing, and weed eating. The harder you work, the more money you make!

I did lawn maintenance for 10 years. Could do 25 yards in a day with 3 people. My best was 32 with 4. Almost all were subdivisions average 1/4-1/3 acre lots. Key was almost no traveling- less than 10 miles for the 25 yard route. My # 1 tip is to set boundaries and don't cross for any reason. 4-10 square mile area is more than enough to keep a crew of 3 busy.
