Good show, Maties!

The German officer's attitude was typical of many Germans who believed the Dolchstosslegende (Stab-in-the-Back Myth) even before the end of the war. This attitude helped bring the Nazis to power. I'll bet he became a Nazi himself. However this scene and his speech omit any reference to the Jews who would become scapegoats in Germany as well.

When it came down to it Kaiser may have felt bad about fighting his kin but his first and foremost loyalty was to Australia. This was the general feeling not just among German Australians but German Canadians, German New Zealanders, and especially German Americans.
