This is a video of a game maker project I am working on called Waves.
Infinity Squadron is a top down shooter with a sole focus on scoring. There are no set stages and no end, just keep playing against increasingly difficult random enemy waves until you run out of lives.

Graphics and sound will have a retro quality.

  • I'm dying to make a shooter like this. I'm a pixel artist and have little experience with scripts and all that complicated stuff! Can you help me out? How did you make this engine in game maker. Please!

  • @xSBxUltrax - Hard to say without knowing specifically what you want the shooter to do and what experience you have with game maker. But basically i just took the concepts demonstrated in the 1945 shooter tutorial (do a bit of searching on yoyogames and you'll find it) and worked up from there. If you need any help with anything specific then I'll do my best to help, but there's probably too much to cover in just a single post!

  • can you make a tutorial on xp and lvling up?

  • It's a fairly easy concept really, just have 3 variables: Exp, Next and Level (call them what you like of course). Exp tracks the current experience and destroyed enemies add to this, Next is the required experience to level up and Level is the player level. If Exp is grater or equal to Next then increase Level by one and increase Next by the desired amount. Hope that helps.

  • the great monkeyman. This guy makes top notch games. Play them ASAP.

  • Wow, this looks awesome! I've only ever made one shmup and it's barely a traditional one. XD

And I love the 8-Bit Graphics, they fit pretty well.

  • Very cool... love the retro look!

I just need to figure out how to make nice clean bullet patterns like that. :)
