AK 47s had the double hook and the AKMs used the single hook. As part of the AKM design to lighten the AK47, every extra piece of NON-essential metal was shed. The bolt, carrier, recoil guide, receiver, trigger, etc are all lighter on an AKM vs the AK47 counterpart. The reason why you can't use a double in place of a single is because the bottom of the receiver isn't notched ahead of the trigger cut in 2 places, only one. As you press the double hook trigger it will wedge on the receiver.

Good info. I did not know you could use a single hook in a double hook gun. The reason I heard that the Russians switched to a single hook trigger for the AKM was that they replaced the other hook with the rate reducer in full auto guns.
can't you replace a single hook with a double hook if you get the different hammer?

@NaturalBornThriller9 The hammer is the same on either, the trigger is the one part youll need according to your gun.
