As someone said below, unsurpassable. No-one comes close... that voice... the guitar... nearly 30 years for me now & still gives me the shivers... no musician has brought me to tears of joy but this man.

I've loved this song by Dick for years and years. Never thought of the Vincent theory, but now that you have mentioned it, the reference is there. Attended a Thompson concert at Portsmouth recently and he did a tremendous version of Vincent Black Lightening (and dog eat dog in denmark hahahha)- what a show!

@pekoe67, I don't think it;s a crackpot theory at all, the songs are cut from the same cloth. Next time I see Dick I will ask him.

This song opened up the world to me as a 10 year old rural midwestern kid. I can trace everything that has happened since back to 1989 and Bob Blackman's show on our local public radio station. Thanks Dick, for speaking and playing the truth and thanks to@76AMD for posting a great tune.
Suberb guitar, and suberbly sung like only Dick can do!

My crackpot theory: 'Vincent Black Lightning' is Richard's Thompson's response to this
