We take a feral colony out of the duck nesting box they have taken to, and move them into a new hive. JR Githens, Master Bee Wrangler, provides the guidance. Note: I apologize for referring to JR as a master 'duck' wrangler in the narration. My bad.

  • Due to the delicate nature of this work such as tying knots and handling the comb, it is better to have bare hands.. We used a common bee repellent on our hands used to help clear out supers of bees when readying to extract, and this made the work proceed pretty easily. I was only stung a few times during the hour and a half we were doing this work.

I do frequently use gloves in my routine inspections, but you will find many old timers tend to not need to due to their experience.
