Just after 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 30, 2009, Firefighters from the Lanham area of Prince Georges County Maryland were alerted to a 911 call reporting smoke coming from a garage. Engine 848 and Truck 828, West Lanham Hills #2 and #1 respectively, were the first suppression units to arrive on the scene at 9308 Annapolis Road. They encountered a 1 ½ stories, 25 X 30, detached garage located on obviously vacant/abandoned property with smoke showing. First arriving crews stretched hoselines and forced entry into the structure and initiated an interior attack and search of the structure. The fire was quickly contained and extinguished by first arriving units in about 5 minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

  • @bullzisnipr3 Well said, i understand you. Guys, use your brains not your ball..... Vacant structure fires are a totally different ball game, high risk/low reward vs low risk/high reward. Remember the Worchester 6........ how soon we forget.

  • it looks like the garage was abandoned

  • @joek0617 Because volunteers don't always have 6 guys. This engine could have been out driver training for all we know.

  • @PGFD800 why would an engine have only 2 people, they should have at alest 4, ususally 5 or 6

  • Those are some bad ass truckies!

  • @PGFD800- If FF safety was "priority one" at a garage fire, then why did a 3 man crew make entry? and why was the guy carrying the ladder walking so close to a potential bomb while not in full PPE? Just saying. Not to mention the unmasked guy who approached the entry crew! That was dumb. Flashover = No face!

  • quick knockdown

  • @howulikedemrice no he meant the engine had 2 people on it, the ladder truck that u saw had a full staff

  • @sjff2003EMT You clearly missed my whole point here.. and where I said UNLESS anybody is believed to be inside. I don't need to rethink my tactics, you need to rethink where I fight fire and where you fight fire. Everybody's demographic is different, I fight fire in a rural/suburban area, not in a large city where homeless are roaming. Not trying to be an ass by any means, we're all firefighters but we all have different tactics for our response area.
