It's true we don't see Han being a player to anyone else but we can easily guess thats who he was before Leia. What I meant about Lando is he represents where Han came from before he became involved with the Rebellion, and began moving away from the smuggling lifestyle. Meanwhile Lando is still a lot like he was when Han knew him (even though he takes the responsibility of leading Cloud City), so it is with Lando that we can see how much Han has changed and matured since he last saw his friend.
