'79 Ford Mustang Turbo 2.3 running in C Prepared SCCA Solo2. This Mustang has the original carbureted turbo setup that came with the car. It is the same that was available in the '79 Mustang Indy Pacecar. It still has a displacement of 2.3L with long rod/short pistons at 8:1, cast iron oval port head, ported and with oversize valves, roller cam with solid tappets, 500 cfm stage III Holley 2bbl, thoroughly re-worked stock intake, 21 psi boost from the stock turbo. Current rw power is at 220 hp and 200 torque. It is undersized for the carb and the older style head probably isn't flowing as well as the later head style. Thinking about putting in a different crank to up the displacement to at least 2.8L

  • hey man! love the spool of your engine! could you tell me the exact specs of the carb your running? i would like to get rid of the factory carb but cant just put anything on there because of the draw through setup.. thanks

  • @colonialmotion The carb is a Holley 500 cfm 2 bbl with an adapter plate to fit the stock intake. I have got the adapter and carb from Esslinger. The still sell both. It requires making a small indentation in the valve cover and removing some material from the carb where the butterfly shaft comes out. If you want to put this on a streetable car, go with the progressive version of the 350 cfm carb. The head I am using is ported and has oversized valves and custom turbo cam.

  • The intake is the original that came with the car. I also removed the divider in the intake between the carb and turbo. Since this video was taken I have put in a stroker kit so it is now a 2.6L which works better with the 500 cfm carb. I run 110 octane race fuel and 8:1 compression with 17psi boost. The stock turbo has put out up to 22 psi but with 4.88 gears and 2450# weight I decided to maintain engine longevity and better autocross manners.
