  • Though this format of music is called indian classical but pakistan based vocalists are far mor ahead then indian ones like Bade ghulam ali khan and rest of them.

  • @shakeelbari

bhai thank you for your comment. i am pakistani but i dont see bade ghulam ali khan as pakistani artist. he was very much indian. in any case i dont see music as either indian or pakistani as it is so similar and corsses borders all the time.

also i dont really see our music as muslim or hindu, in case that is what you meant. music is meant to bind and bring people together irrespective of their faith, race or citizenship/nation of course.

  • Arifji, thanks so much for these lovely posts. Tell me, is there any way to get a hold of albums by ustadji? Are there any around? He sang a slightly fast paced Darbari Kanad at the All Pakistan Music Conference, 2006, I would die to get a recording. Best.

  • @sherdabachha all APMC's recorded music is available from APMC in Karachi in CD format. I try to get some every year.

  • music transcends all boundaries of religion, culture, and race. If, after listening to this music, you are stuck in regional strife, then you have no appreciation of music. Period.

  • Why do you want to associate a country’s name with music?

  • @shakeelbari it is called Indian Classical because the heritage started from temples in India thousands years ago in form of dhrupad and dhamar style of music. The roots of the sa,re,ga,ma,pa are found in the sama veda which is 6000yr old hindu scripture. Taan Sen had learned his art in temples under his guru swami Haridas who was a hindu saint. I also love classical and especially the ghazal singers from Pakistan but it is called indian for the right reasons. It was all India before '47 anyways.

  • wah.. tanres aur un ki aulad ka koi jawab nai!

  • wah... thanks for the beautiful GUJRI TODI.

indeed Sami sahib [JAAN] stands apart from all the vocalists of pakistan.

  • oh yes and you are right about the quality of his voice. it is very special. also he has very good training and has worked hard with dedication to his art. it is so easy to get distracted to other activities that generate a lot more income in pakistan. so we as music lovers owe ustad naseeruddin saami a debt of gratitude.

  • i am not in pakistan either. a dear friend bought it for me from apmc, karachi. no i dont think you get it online. however i have an even better treasure which is a collection of three CDs of just his singing. you could probably have someone buy it from his son rauf who runs a music school in defence these days. if you still need help then send me a message, i will ask him. i am sometimes in contact with rauf.
