ジェネットのすごく下手に話すこと！Ｖｏｌ．１

I know this is bad, guys. It's really, really bad. It's a lazy video, but more than that, if I were to write everything I said in the video, I would've been able to write much more complex, better sentences, but that is why I really need to practice speaking in Japanese. I'm going to be starting intermediate classes in less than a month, but I feel like my speaking is still stuck at a beginner level. It's because even though I've been in Japan for six months now, I've been too scared to speak in Japanese, so my speaking skills haven't gotten much better since I got here.

My reason for posting this video (and possibly future videos like this) is not to get corrections on my Japanese (but feel free to correct me anyway). I'm posting this/these as a way to, hopefully, get over the fear of speaking.

I agree with getoutofmyband. I know what you mean. Sometimes, I use casual Japanese in my videos, but I usually try to be more formal using masu and desu form, even though I feel a bit strange being formal xD

Don't worry, I post lazy videos all the time, but yours was fine! Plus, subtitles are too hard to make...

As other people say, your Japanese is not bad.

Indeed, speaking is much harder than just writing. When I'm speaking in English, often I start panicking like "I am watch...ing bideo...um...videos on youtube desu" because I need to process a vocabulary, a grammar and a pronunciation in a limited time

You're really not as bad as you think you are! I oughta do a Japanese vlog, it was the reason I started my channel, but I get 恥ずかしい about it too. I also get frustrated when i don't have the vocabulary to express myself. The videos where I speak well are often scripted or I only upload the best takes. ^^;;

As for polite/casual form... I think people tend to be polite on youtube, but it depends on what they're saying. It's confusing!

You're Japanese is about the same as mine! It's so much easier to understand Nihongo from foreign speakers. Maybe it's because we don't use ben. I've only been studying (actually going to class) for Nihongo for one year (including the five months in country) but I think it's easier to listen and understand than speak. 勉強がんばろう〜

Speaking on YT is like monologue where the long form is usually better fit, but since you're doing this for the practice, it's up to you, depending on which form you'd like to practice.

The fear of speaking in public is the worst enemy to the improvement in language skill. It's a great idea to do it on YT.
