No, I didn't say that, but SS was NEVER intended to be the sole means for retirement. If you made the mistake and thought that it was, you are going to have a very miserable below poverty level retirement. SS was intended to be a safety net, not a retirement package. Unfortunately, many people have made the mistake you have and didn't plan properly for their retirement thinking that SS would cover it.

So people who invested into Social Security their entire lives through hard work shouldn't expect to be entitled to receive something back from that investment? It's not "jealousy" to expect that you get something back from what you paid into all your life.  We need to stop bailing out corporations and giving them welfare. Have you looked at what some of these wealthy people did with the bailout funds they got?

That's idiotic. When someone invests money they made through salaries (which is taxed) they are not taxed on the principal amount they invested. They are only taxed on the additional income made through that investment. The amount they originally invested isn't taxed a second time (since it was taxed when is was originally made.) Only INCOME is taxed, whether that's salary income or investment income and the original investment money is not taxed a second time.  Use your noggin.

Nice idea. But what about the many people who went bankrupt through no fault of their own.  People who had a major illness for instance. As far as regulation goes, it depend on where the regulations are and who they affect. Before the 1980s Deregulation, there wasn't a single financial bubble and since, we have had many bubbles. Ironically, it's the same folks who were deregulated who have used political power to over-regulate local and state business to limit competition.

How is that financial system taking away from the poor? Work your ass off, save your money and start a business. Nothing is for free and nothing is guaranteed but the poorest people in the USA are a lot richer than people in so many other countries. It does not matter how rich the richest people are in the USA. It matters how much you and I have opportunity here in order to better our lives. And the more regulation and taxes we have the more it inhibits business growth. Less business? Less Jobs.

The USA has never been a Democracy! We have a bill of rights designed to keep the majority from taking the freedoms away from the minorities.
