The Great Giuseppe Giacomini sings "Niun mi tema" from Otello

I admire Giuseppe Giacomini, who never really got the credit he deserved in the United States. Giacomini was a great dramatic tenor, but he was not a "sexy" singer. He was what the Spanish call "un hombre serio y formal." Religious, intellectual, dignified, serious and self-disciplined, he did not conform to stereotypes of operatic tenors. Curiously, he reminds me more of Chaliapin than of typical tenors. He was--and remains--a superb musician, a brilliant stylist who takes an intellectual and dramatic approach to his music. A conservatory graduate, with honors, he was a formidable musician who took a near religious approach to the lyric stage and the theater, which he often compared to a temple. He was a singer for the theater; which is where he shone. His particular kind of very dark voice did not record as well as some brighter voices do, but he was stunning in the theater, where he could rattle the windows with his powerful dramatic tenor voice. Here he is in one of his signature roles, and it is not hard to imagine the vocal and dramatic power of this portrayal in the opera house.

Sì. Non posso dire nulla di Kaufmann, perché non sono a conoscenza del suo lavoro, ma ho seguito la carriera di Giacomini da vicino, e sono convinto che egli è un grande tenore.

@liEder89 Condivido il tuo entusiasmo per questo tenore meraviglioso. Non ha mai ricevuto il riconoscimento qui negli Stati Uniti che si meritava, per la semplice ragione che non ha giocato il clown, e non ha cercato di capitalizzare sugli stereotipi. Era un artista serio, un uomo serio e formale; e merita molto credito per il mantenimento della sua dignità e integrità artistica di fronte alla "show business", e tutta la sua stupidità cinica e calcolata.

Er ist wirklich ein Phänomen mit 70 Jahren noch im Besitze einer solchen Stimme zu sein. Übrigens habe ich nie verstehen können, dass ihm gegenüber anderen Tenören die von der Publicity getragen wurden, nie die die Popularität zugestanden wurde, die er verdient hätte. Er ist ein sehr ernsthafter Künstler, und er hat kein Interesse an "Show-Business." Für ihn ist großartige Musik etwas Geistiges, und das Theater ist wie ein heiliger Tempel. Er ist das Gegenteil von einigen Sängern, die nur an sich selbst interessiert sind.

@liEder89 well....i stand sometimes next to Kaufmann and although Giacomini is simply the One for me, Jonas is maybe "most near" to him from current tenors. But that is thing of personal taste or more development than taste. But i would be happy to experience live someone as good as Giacomini, blessed who saw him :o)

Una persona molto religiosa,è veramente innamorato della lirica e dell'opera!Non l'avrebbe mai usata per denaro!E poi che dire un artista fantastico!

Er ist, was die Spanier "un hombre serio y formal", nennen; das heißt "eine ernsthafte und formale Person." Dies kann ein Problem in den Vereinigten Staaten sein, die leider mit Showbusiness besessen ist.
