Here Are A Couple Of Good Examples Of Lining Hymns And Where They Come From.I Couldn't Find Any Other Examples,But These Are A Couple Of Absolutely Beautiful Hymns That You Just Don't Hear Anymore.Lining Hymns (Psalm Singing )Was Started Because ,years Ago,No one Knew How To Read .One Of My Parents Told Me That Not Long Ago,All The Churches done this ,and It was Expected For Churches To Sing This Way.
My father is a primitive baptist preacher in Virginia and this is how they sing. I found it very interesting that this sound originated in Scotland. From what I have read the applalacian mountains where first settled by the Scots Irish.

Very interesting. I have heard hymns "lined" in the very rural very Deep South - but they weren't Scots, nor even European for sure. Curious.

Forgive me for pointing out an error. The images representing the Scottish gaelic psalms were from a Church of Scotland which is not representative of the austere surroundings of the Free Church of Scotland where gaelic psalms were and still survive.Great care and attention was made by those who broke free from the shackles of the landlords and their clergy to rid themselves of any frivilous decoration.
