PRESENTED BY PAULINE FREEMAN
The Dirty 9s are all from Dublin, we've just recorded our debut album with Greg Haver who has produced the Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals and Codes and we hope to be releasing the album in March/April. The Dirty 9's formed officially in January 2005 in Cian's kitchen in Maynooth. Although the three founding members (Fergal, Stephen and Cian) all went to school together they had rarely spoken to one another and never even thought about playing music together. By chance they all went to the same University N.U.I Maynooth in 2004. One night Cian saw Fergal playing at an Open Mic in the Student Union. "To be honest his songs didnt even register with me they werent my thing, but the way he got up on to the stage was impressive, he looked like he knew what he was doing," Cian August 2005. "All I knew about Cian was that he was a bit of a smart arse who could play a few blues licks," Fergal August 2005. Despite not knowing each other so well they agreed to meet up to write songs. Stephen was quickly brought in on the bass, and after a succession of drummers, Paul became the bands long-term drummer. Early in 2008 Keith came in on synths and keyboards and the line-up was complete.
