  • @flahr1 The actual engine and bottom end isn't the issue, but lots of other problems cause issues with the bottom end. It's really very different than the 6.0, but still seems to suffer from the same issues. I.e., one EGR cooler was bad enough on the 6.0, so the 6.4 has two. The 6.4 doesn't use high pressure oil for fuel delivery like the 6.0, but still has quite a few problems in the high pressure fuel system. I wouldn't chip/tune it at all, and yes, maintenance is critical.

  • @v8rangerboy No worries. Thanks for the tip, but I already bought it. Is the engine itself crap? Is the engine related at all the 6.0? I heard that the emissions controls and lack of maintenance caused the majority of the issues with the 6.4,

Any recommendations to keep it running reliably (i.e. out of the shop )

  • @flahr1 Not to be the asshole, but if you can get out of it, I would do so. Just my .02. These trucks (and the 6.0) keep us VERY busy, all the time. We're independent (non-dealer), and see at least 6-8 of these per 1 Duramax/Cummins combined. We are a rural community and Ford's seem to be more popular here, but certainly not that much more so.

  • I am getting a 6.4 on Saturday. 2009 350 reg cab for plowing. Hope it's not in the shop too often.

  • @joediesel187 ah thanks for clearing that up

  • @MrM2hb 1997-2003 7.3L

  • @flahr1 8.9 for reg cab or 9.1 for super crew
