Big 7 segment number display prototype. Made for sports score display but when I make 8 digits by this scheme it will be too big to store in my house. So I decided to go another way to do it. Now it's just an artistic installation or garbage.

Each segment is made by small motor and a PS panel, controller card is driven by AVR.

  • I made it by myself. It's driven by small motors and controlled by relays. (because small smd relays are cheaper than full bridge motor driver) I don't remember the exact cost but may be about $20.

  • I don't have any written instructions yet.

  • Yes, each segment is about one foot(30cm) long.

It is no noisier than a regular electromechanical display.

  • i made ur 20 000 view

  • Commercial ones often use solenoids instead of motors; they can refresh considerably faster.

  • ummm noisy ?

  • Amazing work!

  • you should invest in an arduino

  • What's a PS panel?

  • this sound like cartoons run effect :))

  • Any chance of some close up pics on how you connected the mechanics?

  • love it!
