http://beersucker.com gives the TRAQUAIR House Ale a try. It was a great beer and if it had not been for the price would have been in the 90's on our scale.
Commercial Description; ABV 7.2% (Bottled)
The original ale first brewed in 1964 and now sold all over the world. Perhaps the most distinctive Scottish ale on the market and with its rich dark oakiness, this is a serious winter ale. "Serious alcohol and fruity malt on the nose and delicous plum pie and vanilla flavours with a little oak and amontillado sherry character" Andrea Gillies World Guide to Beer.

  • In the Scotch Ale style of beer, this was one of the best. It's still a little sweet but no where near the american offerings.

  • Scottish please not Scotch :) Scotch is a drink, Scottish mean coming from Scotland... really just being pedantic though :P

  • You guys should try the Traquair Jacobite Ale. Its outstanding.

  • sweet.

  • Bear Republic has the Red Rocket that's around 6.8% abv and although classified as an Amber/Red at the "beer advocate" and a Strong Ale at "rate beer" it's an Americanized Scottish recipe.

  • I really liked this one. I don't think I will purchase it often but will buy it again.
