Last winter I got an email from a friend of mine named Drew Fasy. Drew is a very nice guy and is quite involved in trying to improve the civic life of our town of Ocean City New Jersey.
He wrote to ask if I'd be interested in making a little film about a street painting project he was helping to plan. This project is a collaboration between a group called CAP, the Community Art Projects, the art department of Ocean City High School, and the Traffic Unit of the Ocean City Police Department. Tons of city residents turned out to volunteer for a day of fun and painting. I got to talk to a number of people, including Ocean City's youthful police chief, the high school student whose design was selected, and the mayor of Ocean City.

  • John,

This is a great movie about one of my favorite places! The artist's design was beautiful, and it was nice to see so many people from the community come out and support the arts!

  • lol mulford is a crazy lady, but she's cool. i tried out for this contest, but i liked rachel's design a lot better.

  • the best place to go on vacation, ive been goin to oc since 02 and its nice to take a break from nyc

  • I live 2 blocks down from here.

  • We'll be looking for this when we come over in September. Really wonderful!

  • I loved this movie. It's so easy to get cynical these days about the state of our country, the economy, etc. But you just showed this great slice of life from a really good natured American town and its people, from adorably young 'uns to highly decent oldsters. The fact that so many people unabashedly like Art and find it a vital part of the community was also so inspiring. You should send this to municipal governments all over the country!

  • sounds great! We'll do that!
