This video was filmed by Azerbaijani rights activists on June 10, 2009 in the Iranian city of Tabriz, Iran. These protesters are advocating greater cultural and linguistic rights for Iran's ethnic Azerbaijani population. This community is barred from schooling in their native tongues or using their mother language in public forums or news broadcasts in Iran. This particular protest was organized in response to Azerbaijani rights activist and university professor Alireza Farshi, who was arrested on May 22, 2009. When his wife, Sima Didar, went to visit him in prison, she was presented with a warrant and arrested upon arrival. They are being held by government officials indefinitely and their health is unknown.

This video is posted in response to some who have posted this same video, claiming that it was filmed on June 22, 2009. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG! This clip has nothing to do with the Iranian election demonstrations. These activists are risking their safety to promote linguistic rights and to demand the release of unlawful detentions of Azerbaijani activists.
