the whole point of the wheel of pain scene was to tell of the old saying "that which does not kill us makes us stronger" it didnt kill conan. it only made him stronger mentally and physically

@HeroSavage so they took a whole shitload of slaves and went way out into the wilderness so they could pointlessly push a wheel for 20 years instead of having them make food so they didnt starve and could actually make money off of their slaves

Director/Writer John Milius wrote it in as a symbol of the fruitless toil of life and at first did not designate a purpose for it.
It was Set designer/Artistic Director Ron Cobb who came up with the point that it should at least have some practical use and designed it as a wheat grinder.

The Wheel of Pain is NOT a grinding wheel for grain lol. It's sacrificial. You could say it ground down souls since one by one it's captives died and the Vanir made you push it in every waking moment in all kinds of weather. No way would they make a grinding mill so huge in the middle of nowhere or embellish it with totems and chains. It was made to be pushed and that was it. Ironically if they did try and grind anything, Conan or not, it was so big he couldn't have done it alone.

Fuck all this grain nonsense! The Wheel of PAIN! It was a fucking wheel that you pushed until it caused you PAIN!!! Crom laughs at you all for your fruitless efforts of trying to understand what is not meant to be understood.
