I can't remember the first time I heard this song... but I can certainly remember the first time I bought a guitar, and I know it probably wouldn't have happened had it not been for you. Growing up, I heard your name in reference to music that came decades before my time, but I wouldn't have guessed that I would one day be playing singing those songs myself. But it's really more than simply your music that has given me so much admiration for you. It's the fact that unlike so many who achieve your level of success, you were honestly a kind person who never let that success change who you are. You were incomparable both in talent and as a friend, and I can only envy those who had the chance to tell you so. I know you wanted your music to be remembered, and while the world is a very different place now, there's no doubt that your legacy remains truly larger than life. I can understand that you didn't realize it would all be over so soon, yet I know that you spent your dying day just doing what you loved. You may have left this world long before I was ever born, but you never left me without hope. Thanks, Buddy.

  • Seriously, your "accent" was worse than Gary Busey's in the movie. Just sing it, you don't have to try so hard. If you want to sound like Buddy, TONE IT DOWN. Just because he's from Texas doesn't mean he sounded like this..

  • @JiggyMonster98 I never really expected to sound like Buddy. The two of us are from very different parts of the south and while I don't have to "try" particularly hard to have an accent, I'm sure when you mix up the one I've got with Buddy's style of singing, it might come off that way. Two years after making this video, I've noticed that I don't sound like that anymore but I haven't felt the need to go back and post another video of the exact same song.

  • Try to sound like Buddy not the one who did the Buddy Holly story movie.Buddy voice does sound like the guy on Green Acres.Guitar playing was good.

  • Yeah, I would also try not to sound like a know-it-all when I watch other people's videos. I've always based my vocals on the real Buddy Holly. There's plenty of impersonators you can find more fault with long before you could me. This was just a simple dedication to someone who happens to mean a lot to me. I'm seeking neither praise nor critique for it.

  • mate

from a fellow Holly fan, you've done this song the greatest justice of all. You played with full exhuberance and at the end of the day, thats what counts. You didnt try to be Buddy, just a damn fine singer, playing a Buddy Holly song. Without a doubt, the BEST, cover version of this song I've heard on YouTube or in the mainstream.

  • Thanks for the kind words and I'm really glad that you enjoyed my small tribute. If it weren't for Buddy, it would be highly unlikely that I would have ever bought a guitar or tried to sing in the first place. Even as I take my music farther by doing live performances and shows, I never leave behind the spirit that inspired it all into being.

  • Sounds to me like your own voice comes through loud and clear. Your guitar playing is just great, nice and smooth.
