your using an emulator that not emulating this game properly. Those sound effects you hear, is when the game transitions into a fight with the character in the ring.

You can still get wins by replaying any matches or in time attack mode.

It keeps track of wins based on your user name, so I would guess that when I did this I forgot to record it when I beat Nick Bruiser or something along those lines. As it stands right now my win-loss record is 255-0 on that file.
