The choppy audio/video quality is due to the session recorder. Otherwise the 3D Desktop is as smooth as silk with Compiz Fusion even while the session recorder is running in the background. Only the output of the session recorder is crappy.

Moreover in this case, the Copmiz Fusion is stressed to the extreme to run many video, audio and video-accelerated graphical and other tasks simultaneously.

  • What macbook pro version do you have. I have a 5.1 and have not had much luck getting Linux to work on mine. I can get the wifi to work but have had no luck with the sound .

  • Hi, mine is late 2007, sans multitouch, model. I think 3.1 or later. From Fedora 9 to Fedora 11 I have no issues with anything, anything at all.

    For sound, try:

    echo "options snd_hda_intel model=mbp5" >> /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf

  • Is the Fedora installation straight forward or are there work arounds I have to go through?

  • Installation on what, PC or Mac? PC is damn easy. On Mac you've to use rEFIt and then the installation is very easy. But configuring WiFi, BlueTooth, Sound, etc (that too for 64 bit kernel) is not for the faint hearted. But there are documentations available on net, so don't worry.

  • Linux is kind of easy on a PC. But finding the drivers is sometimes hard, especially when you have a 64-bit OS (because you need 64-bit drivers).
