I would like to point out that you can find this information form Lonely Planet,US State Department,& WHO. So this is good Information,Better safe then sorry. anyone who thinks she is exaggerating will probably be the tourist who spends His/Her vacation on the toilet with the runs.

And they likely didn't fly into Cusco, take the bus to Ollantaytambo, take the train to Aguas Caliente, and finally the shuttle up to Machu Picchu all in the same day either, right? Generally mosquitos go dormant in weather 60F or lower

I went to the amazons, Iquitos and I dont recall getting mosquito bites despite my sweet blood. I even went to visit a tribe in the Amazon. I got much worst doing camping in the canadian forest. In machupichu the mayority of people dont have any headaches, I didnt either. A little of exageration!
